6+Best Things to Do Andorra la Vella

In advance of your journey to Andorra La Vella, I want to make sure you look over these activities that you certainly should engage in.

Located at the heart of the Pyrenees, the Andorran capital boasts a unique mixture of leisure, shopping, cultural experiences, and a wealth of outdoor activities.

Having the advantage of operating as a travel blogger in Barcelona, I have the opportunity to visit the capital of Andorra for a weekend. Although the city lacks significant size, there is an abundance of things to do.

This city offers a calm break away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, relaxing streets for old beautiful strolls, and a variety of wonderful things to indulge in, including calming spas.

To write this article, I have gathered more than 6 things to do Andorra la Vella, as well as other tips that I consider useful and essential to planning your visit.

Best Things to Do Andorra la Vella

Here are activities and attractions in Andorra la Vella:

Relax at Caldea Spa

Seeing Caldea Spa should be on the top of your list of things to do while in Andorra la Vella – it’s one of the largest thermal spa complexes in the whole of Europe.

Even though it’s actually right in the middle of downtown, once you enter the heated pools, saunas, and Jacuzzis you truly feel like you’re in a relaxing tranquil paradise.

Once you’re inside the huge spa complex, you’ll find almost every type of pool you can think of including, indoor and outdoor lagoons, jacuzzis, cold water plunges, grapefruit and lemon dips, hydromassage stations, bubble beds, and an exfoliating shower.

When I went, I opted for the Premium package which provided access to the whole facility for four-hours, including an exclusive adults-only private area, with a robe and sandals.

It was an incredibly unique experience and definitely the highlight of my trip to Andorra la Vella!

Shop on Meritxell Avenue

A major draw for Andorra la Vella is shopping, due to the country’s tax benefits after Brexit.

Meritxell Avenue, the primary shopping street in the city has a selection of both international and local brands. The pedestrian section of the street has famous Spanish high street retail chain shops like Zara, Bershka and Stradivarius, along with high-end boutique shops and shops for clothing and luxury items, electronic and cosmetics.

Overall, there are significant savings to be made tax free shopping across Europe and that’s why Andorra continues to enjoy this tourist attraction, however, based on my purchasing experience, the prices were not that much cheaper compared to Barcelona.

Regardless, I had a good time shopping thanks to so many shops to choose from and the fact that Meritxell Avenue is a pedestrian shopping area.

If you are looking for more specialized souvenirs and gifts, it is worth seeking out some of the smaller shops that carry Andorran crafts and souvenirs. Even if you do not intend to buy anything, this is simply a vibrant area to walk and discover.

Visit the Salvador Dalí Sculpture

The original Salvador Dalí sculpture known as la Noblesse du Temps (Nobility of Time) can be found in Andorra la Vella.

Located in Plaça de la Rotonda, right in the center of Andorra la Vella, alongside the Gran Valira river is a large bronze melting clock sculpture.
This is a great spot for some pictures and to check out the piece of unique artwork.

Check Out the Scenic Lookouts

Of course, the Pyrenees mountains surrounding Andorra la Vella create spectacular mountain scenery, but there are also scenic lookouts with good views.

The Mirador Roc del Quer lookout point beside Canillo is famous for its suspended lookout platform and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

If you want to stay close to the city you can walk the Rec del Solà Trail. This easy hike is primarily on a stone path and has nice views of town and the mountains.

Walk Around the Old Town

The Barri Antic, or Old Town, is the historical center of Andorra la Vella.
Here, you will see cobbled streets, buildings centuries old, and a generally quieter and more relaxed feel than the busier shopping areas.

As you walk and explore, keep your eyes peeled for tiny shops and narrow meandering streets. You’ll come across historic monuments such as La Casa de la Vall, which once housed parliament.

Art galleries

There are a number of exciting museums in Escaldes-Engordany for culture vultures to explore. For example, the Museum of Perfume offers visitors a unique, immersive experience to select their own essences and aromas to create their very own perfume!

In particular, it is also important to visit the Centre d’Art d’Escaldes-Engordany (CAEE), which is located nearby. The centre provides temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, while additionally showcasing collections that acknowledge the region’s Romanesque art.

In Conclusion: Things To Do Andorra la Vella

I hope this guide to the best things to do Andorra la Vella has helped you in planning an amazing adventure!

Although the capital city of Andorra is small, it provides a variety of experiences for all travelers.

Whether you are a traveler who wants to relax, eat comfort food, or be outdoors, there is a charming small city in the Pyrenees that is in a class all its own and deserves a visit.

For me, the highlight was visiting Caldea Spa, but I also had a tremendous amount of fun exploring the Old Town and shopping on Meritxell Avenue.
